Don't have too much money set aside for your big day? Don't feel like getting married because of all the fuss involved? We got you. We don't want you to go into debt for a single day either, so here's how to simplify your wedding budget, and nifty tips and tricks to throw a sophisticated and chic wedding without spending an extravagant amount of money. Here's how:
Work out your budget.
The key to this goal of staying under $20,000 is budgeting, and keeping track of each dollar that goes into wedding-related expenses. All calculations for this article are not including the amount of ang pows you receive from your guests--and assuming that no one else is chipping in for your wedding but the two of you. The only area that this might vary is the dowry, which your parents might insist on paying.
Your wedding costs would look something like this. The data was extrapolated from an article about the actual cost of weddings. Percentages for each area were counted and then tailored to fit our budget of S$20,000.
Types of Weddings
There are a number of ways you can do this, with no wrong or right answer either way--it's all about what you want for your special day. You could have a church ceremony and reception lunch, a ROM and lunch or dinner with your immediate family and close friends, a church ceremony and banquet lunch, solemnisation in hotel followed by a banquet lunch or dinner or a solemnisation, followed by a lunch or dinner on different days. For purposes of this article, we'll go with the solemnisation in hotel followed by a banquet lunch.
Solemnisation and Wedding Lunch or Dinner - $10,200 +$42
The key to this is to reduce the number of guests you invite, and you can have a lovely and intimate wedding--with people you mostly know, what a rarity!--in a hotel setting. At this price point, most of the options below are lunch or dinner buffet solemnisation packages, with the exception of Ramada Singapore at Zhongshan Park, which went slightly over budget since you reserve by table and not by number of guests. Here are our top picks. (Prices include GST and service charge and are subject to change). If you have a single venue for both your solemnisation and your lunch or dinner, you can also shave off $1,200 to be used elsewhere (we suggest photography or pre-wedding shoots). For couples where at least one is a permanent resident or a Singapore citizen, the marriage license cost is $42.
